The Fantasticks is considered to be the world's longest running musical with 42 years and 17,162 performances of the off-Broadway production. A mix of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore and Rostand's Les Romanesques, The Fantasticks tells the story of forbidden love between the son and daughter of feuding neighbors. But will their love survive when they find out their fathers staged the feud so they would fall in love? The Fantasticks has endured because its observations about life, innocence and disillusionment are universal and timeless.
