Outreach Program

The Outreach Program brings groups of disadvantaged people to the Playhouse to attend performances free of charge, enabling us to broaden our definition of community and to give back in a society increasingly focused on taking. This program has been in effect for over 25 years.
One of the focuses of the program is to expose people in drug and alcohol dependency program to live theater. In addition, whenever the subject matter is appropriate, strong focus is placed on family support organizations and programs that target troubled youth.

Along with these performances, our largest expense is providing transportation for these groups (the cost for one bus can run $500). The following handwritten “Thank You” letter we received from a recent Outreach Group, in this case, an adult drug rehabilitation service, best explains how meaningful this experience is to them.

Please help us continue this program. Any 501(c)(3) tax deductible contribution is welcome. Download the Outreach Donation Form to print and mail it to Chatham Community Players, P.O. Box 234, Chatham, NJ 07928.

Quotes from participants in the Outreach Program

Here at Visions & Pathways, we are extremely thankful for the Outreach Program at Chatham Community Playhouse!  Our youth had no idea what to expect and were so surprised when real, live actors walked out on stage.  As you may already know, many of our youth have never had the opportunity to experience live theatre before, so this was a very special treat for those that attended.
For the past week, these same youth have asked to go back, or for the opportunity to visit other local theaters.  I believe this experience truly sparked something inside them. Thank you for all you do.  –  Visions & Pathways, Arts & Recreation Department  (Click here to view the letter.)

Our clients could not stop talking about the play and the opportunity to meet and speak with the actors. Many of them expressed that they had never seen a show before…it is the kindness of our benefactors, such as yourself and the Chatham Playhouse, that provides a meaningful frame of reference for them as they begin their lives of sobriety. Manuel Gauntex, Psy.D. CADC – Turning Point, Inc.

Your gift directly impacts the lives of our families, not only because it fills an immediate need, but because it shows our families that they are not alone in their effort to become self-sustaining. – Laura Langer, Executive Director - Interfaith Council for the Homeless Families of Morris County

In one way or another, we have all been touched by the disease of addiction. I would like to mention your compassion to the culture of Art and thank you for sharing it with Honesty House. Most of us never take the time or interest to indulge in theater of the Arts…The night out showed us what kind of life we can live as clean and sober members of society. – Linda Mudrick, Executive Secretary, Honesty House, Stirling, NJ

Additional Quotes

Your kind invitation to our residents to your plays does so much good for them that it is difficult to measure. For many of them it is their first experience of live theater, and it reveals to them a world that they have never known before…You wonderful people quite certainly help our residents realize that there is a dimension to life they have never experienced before.
– Reverend Michael Moore, Director, Pastoral Care

Being an addict in recovery and seeking new things that interest me, I truly want to thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to experience a live performance.
– Stan S. from Turning Point

You are providing a wonderful community service by extending the beauty and benefit of theater and art to a very appreciative audience – Betsy F. Hollo, MA Clinician (Family Service of Morris County)
