Auditions for Constellations by Nick Payne

Chatham Community Players’ black box series, One Weekend Only, wraps up its 2nd Season holding auditions for Nick Payne’s “Constellations", directed by Felicity Winter. One Weekend Only was born of the desire to find a dedicated place at the theater for a different kind of production. These shows have smaller casts, smaller sets, and are staged up close our audiences. The subject matter may be challenging. The humor may be on the dark side. The drama may be intense.

Auditions will be held on Monday, March 11th and Tuesday, March 12th at 7:00 pm at The Chatham Playhouse 23 North Passaic Ave. Chatham, NJ. Performances are June 7-9, 2024 with rehearsals to begin in late March. Actors will be asked to read from sides provided below at the audition asked to check in by 7:30 pm, unless previously arranged with the production team.

“Constellations” by Nick Payne is a view of the many possibilities that exist within a life, seen through the lives of Marianne, a physicist, and Roland, a beekeeper. Follow their tragic love story as we see the influence of choices, big and small, on their parallel universes. “Constellations” is a play for anyone who has ever wondered “what if?”

Character descriptions:

  • Marianne - mid 20’s to late 30’s; a physicist but it would surprise you to hear that; breezy; bright; fiercely independent; ability to do a British accent is a plus.

  • Roland - early 30’s to mid 40’s; a beekeeper and that makes sense; straight-laced, rigid; a bit awkward; wants to help but doesn’t know how; ability to do a British accent is a plus.
